"Time was her labyrinth, in which Hunilla was entirely lost... Humanity, thou strong thing, I worship thee, not in the laureled victor, but in this vanquished one."
-The Encantadas
Seriously? Herman Melville? Who would have known you would be actually really awesome to read. Sometimes your diction made my eyes bleed, but all of those years of bromidic vocabulary exercises in our beloved public school system actually paid off. This dude. Right here. A genius.
Also of note: Blogspot does not recognize Encatadas as a word. The first suggestion of change is "enchiladas". I chuckle, I chuckle.

on the subject of books, Australia doesnt even stock Two Kinds of Time. I remember things you tell me and want to read it. but alas.
happy reading. I havent found Everything is Illuminated yet. Got a feeling I hid it from my mother.
wow, yeah pretty amazing words.
I can't wait to read all of your books after you teach me how to read this semester. It's going to be like Encino Man. You're Sean Astin
Herman Melville? Love the guy; I wish he was my godfather or something. I've never read "The Enchiladas" (jooooke), but I might have to add it to my summer reading. Have you read his short story "Bartleby, the Scrivener"? It's one of my favorites, and Bartleby's line, "I would prefer not to," is a phrase I've adopted and use regularly.
I actually read The Encantadas out of a short story collection, one of which was Bartleby. I think that might be his most interesting and most powerful (at least in today's world. I'm not doubting the power of Billy Budd, Sailor back in the good ol' 1800's).
Bartleby was really Kafkan for being pre-Kafkan and I wonder if Kafka ever read Melville. How many times can I put Kafka into a sentence? Kafka, Kafka, Kafka.
I think you could of used one more Kafka. But that's tops.
